About Refugees

How does someone become a refugee?

Refugees are individuals who have been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster.

Where do refugees live?

Currently, there are over 110 million forcibly displaced people worldwide. The majority live in refugee camps, some for decades. It is estimated that less than 1% of these are fortunate to ever be resettled.

The United States currently resettled approximately 60,000 new refugees, annually, in cities across the country. We currently operate in WNY including Buffalo, Rochester, Niagara Falls and Jamestown, which are all known for their thriving refugee communities.
